How to add Gmail to iOS Mail

While using Google's iOS App is a good solution for accessing your Gmail account from your iPhone, the other option is to have your mail integrated. Here are instructions on how to add your Gmail account into the native iOS Mail application.

Before you begin, make sure IMAP is enabled for your Gmail account. It probably is as it should be by default. To check go to your Gmail account through the browser, click on settings and then Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Make sure there the button near Enable IMAP is selected.
  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Find Mail in the list.
  3. Select Accounts.
  4. Press Add Account.
  5. Choose Google.
  6. Enter the full Gmail address for the account you want to add.
  7. Press NEXT.
  8. Enter your Gmail password.
  9. Press NEXT.
    1. If you have 2-step authentication enabled for your Gmail account, it will prompt you at this point to enter the code.
    2. Press NEXT.
  10. Double check to make sure Mail​ is enabled. (Note: this is where you can enable Contacts, Calendars and Notes).
  11. Press Save.
  12. Press the Home button and open the Mail app.
You should see your email syncing.
